Application of Concrete Plaster

Application of Concrete Plaster

How to apply concrete plaster to a wall?

  • Prepare the surface by cleaning it of dirt and grease. The surface should be dry before application.
  • Apply the primer to the clean surface with a brush (available in our e-shop) and let it dry for about 2 hours (longer at lower temperatures).
  • Thoroughly mix the concrete plaster with a low-speed drill or hand mixer. If too thick, thin with a little water.
  • Apply the first layer of concrete plaster (1-2 mm thick) to the prepared substrate and smooth with a stainless venetian trowel (available in our e-shop). Let it dry and harden for 3 to 6 hours.
  • After 3-6 hours, apply the second layer (1-2 mm thick). Let the second layer dry for 1-3 hours until it is no longer sticky to the touch.
  • Create texture or decoration with a trowel or other suitable tool (e.g., screw imprints, boards, etc.).
  • Apply the final varnish (included in the package) with a brush and let it dry.

Concrete plaster for the bathroom

When using concrete plaster in areas with high moisture or water contact, we recommend applying a hydrophobic/water-resistant varnish to ensure enhanced protection against water and moisture. This water-resistant varnish is suitable for bathrooms or shower areas but should be used only on walls. For floors, use floor-specific plaster that includes a hydrophobic floor varnish.

Creating texture with concrete plaster

The texture layer and decoration should be done with short, irregular trowel movements—circular, vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. We recommend using a high-quality stainless Venetian steel trowel with rounded corners (available in our e-shop) for surface finishing.

TIP: We describe concrete plaster finishing techniques in a separate article here.

To achieve a "shading/mottling" effect, vigorously rub selected areas while keeping the trowel at a minimal angle to the surface.

  • With a fresh surface, you can achieve various effects, such as imprinting screws, boards, trowels, etc.
  • If the area is wet and pliable during application, you will achieve a uniform and smooth surface.
  • With a more dried product, you will achieve a textured/multi-layered surface.
