Concrete Plaster for the Kitchen
Are you renovating your kitchen and wondering which surface material to use? Would you like to unify the look of your kitchen countertops and dining area to achieve a seamless, industrial design on the walls?
Concrete plaster is an ideal surface material for kitchens and countertops, mainly due to its durability and unique properties. Discover these benefits and learn how to properly apply concrete plaster in your kitchen space.
Concrete plaster protects kitchen walls from grease and water.
Concrete plaster gives a luxurious impression in the kitchen. It is a concrete imitation, and its final appearance can be influenced by various application techniques. When applying concrete plaster, the surface needs to be solid, defect-free, clean, and moisture-insulated.
Applying the plaster to the wall is not difficult and can be done as a DIY project (find an article on how to apply concrete plaster here). The final finish involves applying a protective varnish, ensuring that grease and water will not damage the look of the concrete plaster. The final varnish is applied after the plaster has dried, providing impermeability to grease and water, making it easy to clean.
Procedure for applying concrete plaster
Before applying concrete plaster, the surface must first be cleaned of grease and dirt. Once the surface is clean, apply a primer and let it dry. The drying time is always defined by the manufacturer and depends on the room temperature, ranging from 4-12 hours. The room temperature should be between +5°C and +20°C.
After the primer has dried, start applying the concrete plaster. First, mix it thoroughly with a mixer; if the mixture is too thick, you can add a little water. The thickness of the first layer should be approximately 1-2 mm, and the drying time is 4-24 hours. After drying, repeat the application with the same thickness and smooth out any irregularities with a stainless steel trowel or a Venetian trowel with rounded corners (available in our e-shop). More details can be found in our article on how to apply concrete plaster.
Do you need to increase the durability of your plaster?
When using concrete plaster in areas with high humidity or in contact with water, apply 3-4 coats of the final varnish (available in our e-shop). In such cases, we recommend reapplying the varnish as needed every 6-12 months.
